Just read today that (4) deputies witnessed the dogs "eating the victims' ribcage" which would probably explain the " dogs were guarding the victim's body" behavior--guarding their "kill" .
I know there are always exceptions, but whenever we have had our bird dogs as pups, they were all naturally inclined to "point" even before their training began, so there is definitely something to the inherent nature of breeding certain types of dogs for certain tasks, and that breeding being ingrained in their psyche.
