There's also no truth to the myth that there's something different about their jaws, or that they have locking jaws. Any number of dogs will refuse to let go of whatever they're biting, as anyone that's ever played tug-of-war with a dog will know.

My last yellow lab could easily crunch/crush bones, was undefeated in tug-of-war, and could shake my arm out of socket....yet she had that bred for eons "soft mouth" too

. She also loved and protected her tennis balls too....but a tennis ball never triggered an epic dog fight either. The grand pappy mix (90 lb bird dog type) and his 2-3 yr old granddog (PB mama) half his size fight was surreal...over a ball.
When more than two are around, the pack mentality kicks in, and it can escalate very quickly and exponentially too.
