I agree on the heeling part. They need to walk next to you, their shoulder next to your leg, slack leash. They need to follow every command after you say it just once. Their name then command. Their name is not the command. They need to know when its play time and rest time but they always have to follow your command. Its like raising kids, consistency, reward good behavior, redirect unwanted behavior. Dogs want to please their masters, your job is to show them how and what to do. The rest of the family has to be consistent as well.

PS - I never use treats. I want them to perform for me, not for the treat. I always remember a dog trainer saying - "when they do something right, give them a party".
