As a constant shopper in California, I skip over ads for 76-77 cars, and always look at 74-75 listings. To me, I'd pay 30%+ more for a no-smog 75 coupe than I would a '76.
Instead of dealing with California smog on a 76-77, I'd just get a 78-83 SC for not a whole lot more money.
Smog rules do affect decision-making, and therefore market pricing...in California.

exactly. I did over pay for my 75 due to the "plan" for the car. it was also pretty much rust free, had a shat motor, but the slicklid, body condition, RS interior, the Carrera cooler w/fan plumbed, SSI's, and new billsteins struts, inserts, rear shocks "checked many of the boxes" for my project needs. I though the motor being an early 3.oL was also a good starting point, but many of you remember how that ended up
if I had it to do over again id do it again for this example to not have to deal with smog. on my old 78 SC I did the back & forth every two years with ssi's to stock exhaust simply for smog testing. I got to where I could do it in 2.5 hours each way including oil lines, smog pump dummied in and EGR.
smog exempt means the world to this Californian...
