I flush the cooling system on my old S-10 twice a year now so that I have heat most of the time.
I've seen what others do to replace the heater core, and it scares me to death.

I lost my ashtray when I fixed the heating dampers eight years ago, some small plastic tab snapped and that was that. The less I go into the dash to fix things, the fewer damaged parts there will be.
