Thanks Glen.
Really glad I went to the AT&T store. They were a heap more knowledgeable and saved me a huge headache. I had been put on a Consumer Contract instead of setting up a Business Connection. Seems there is a huge difference.
The first thing is the Consumer is a one year contract that the price goes way up at the end of the first year. Business stays the same as long as you have the account.
Consumer internet has a data cap. After a certain amount of data transfer you get charged per megabyte transferred. Like they do on the different smartphone services. They said they do that so consumers will get AT&Ts DirectTV. With business internet data is unlimited. Two of the sales guys had the business accounts so they could stream KODI instead of using DirectTV. One used Google Stick and the other a Roku box. Both were curious about me running KODI on my AppleTV. Said they didn't know it could be done. They both got real excited when I told them there is a box they can get that makes a TV antenna available on their network and there is a KODI plugin.
Consumer static IPs are still in the dynamic IP range even though they are static. A mail server with an IP in a dynamic range gets blocked by legitimate mails servers as a spammer. Business gets static IPs not within AT&Ts dynamic IPs.
They had me call and cancel the consumer 'service contract. Then they set me up with business service that does not have a contract. That means the price stays the same. And extra static IPs are $10/mo instead of $15/mo. The business account gets a different business support number. They claim it is better, but I will judge that when it happens. Another difference is the connection is setup in my businesses name instead of my personal name. And they had to check my credit report before letting me have the account. They still charge the business $100 for install, but they give me $100 visa.
Will see if an installer shows up next Friday afternoon, or at least calls. Just maybe my AT&T fiasco has mutated into a $100/mo cost savings/pay raise?
