MB e320 traanny died. coincidence

2000 Mercedes e320 wagon, 240k on it
actual problem:
I thought maybe the oil leaked out so I put in 2 qts of Valvoline oil. nothing to loose at this point. well it still did the same thing, it would not go from a stop and if driving the engine would just rev. I could really smell burned oil when I removed the dip stick to fill it

back story:
about 6 months ago I removed the valve body, took it apart and cleaned it. I could not find an O ring kit for it. also replaced the conductor plate.
put it back together and the tranny shifted better than it has since we owned it.
oil was little low so instead of getting MB oil I put in a Qt of Valvoline that is for the NAG tranny. same tranny but used in fords and renamed.

so last week with all the cold I let the car warm up. when I got in I smelled some oil burning. car still drove fine,
so the wife drives it yesterday and the tranny starts acting up. I thought it was the same old problem of the dirty oil contaminating the conductor plate. (I have drained the several times trying to get the old oil out) this is why I replaced the conductor plate and cleaned the valve body.

what do you think, any chance 1 qt of Valvoline oil killed it?
oil still dirty enough to contaminate the conductor plate again?
Oring problem because I did not replace them?
