We have them everywhere in Michigan. They seem to be able to get in through the fireplace or any small crack in a window or door. The best way I’ve found to dispose of them is to place a jug of water mixed with a little liquid soap below them and let them fall in. They drown quickly and don’t emit the stench they do if you smash them.
