The way it was told to me is this elderly woman breeder was "old school" and had her pet dogs that lived in the house. Then she had the breeding dogs that she looked at like farmers look at cattle. They weren't technically 'abused'. They were fed and got reasonable medical care (so do prisoners). They're all just animals right? No! I believe there is a special bond between humans and dogs that is different and they should not be treated that way.
Anyway, he got neutered Thursday and the vet found some serious teeth problems. She said he had to be in extreme pain and she pulled 16 (out of 42 total). She didn't even charge me because she just wanted to help the poor guy out!! When I picked him up the next day, his eyes were wide and bright

He just looked happy. He's making major improvements each day and did good on the leash today, even running a bit.
