The Michigan Secretary Of State website states that a new purchase can be driven from the point of purchase to to buyers home, by the most direct route, without a plate. You must have insurance, proof of purchase/receipt, and the signed title with you. I believe there is a time limit. Don't know how many other states have the same policy.
