Elissa Update

The roller coaster ride for Elissa Hase!
LATEST UPDATE!
Almost 60 days ago Elissa was sent home on hospice with a chronic unexplained fever that no antibiotic would fix. The doctors predicted she would not last to see 2018. We didn't even setup for Christmas.
As many know right then, I took charge of meds and stopped everything I didn't think she needed. Hospice just gives comfort care meds. Miraculously, all fevers stopped and strength was building. However, her potassium was critically low and she needed to go into hospital for intestinal blockage. 2 weeks without eating, but she again pulled through.
With her strength building, we were thinking about taking her to a beach within driving distance. Her last dream she told Hospice social workers. One night, my sweet friend Lana offered to come stay with her in Maui. WOW! I thought. Can we actually pull this off? When she was discharging from hospital, we had the option for her to get off Hospice and be placed on palliative care with active CF treatment again. Palliative care doctor helped us with the paperwork to go to Maui and 2 weeks later we were leaving for 10 days. We had to buy an O2 concentrator for the trip that could support her because insurance would not accommodate.
Right out of the gate, the stressful ride for 8.5 hours with only battery power (no AC works on plane for trransformers only small electrical) we barely made it with finally using AA O2 rebreather tank the last 45 min.
Finally, we were safe in Maui. Small fever for her on day 3 and runny nose started her on preventative Tamiflu and prednisone, but she pulled through and had a fabulous time. 6 hour flight back was a breeze (fed ex 2 more batteries at $900 before we went), but we made it home to a frozen DFW.
The 10 day trip was the best medicine ever. Elissa became stronger, active, eating well....even with half her lung dead on the right side and 4L of constant O2.
SO.....
This week has arrived. She has some sinus issues but more her normal issues. Trying so desperately to keep her well.
THE GOOD NEWS....
On Tuesday, we received a letter stating she is going to San Antonio for LUNG TRANSPLANT EVALUATION on Feb 5th.
JUST WOW!!!!!

As for Houston Methodist, we are still trying to get paperwork for insurance to cover, but the fight for that is not looking good. If San Antonio denies her after Evaluation, then she is able to go to Duke. We are hopeful once again. ❤

Whatever your beliefs, prayer, fate, mothers determination, the will to keep living........ Elissa has surprised and far surpassed the doctors predictions that started this journey 2 years ago.

THANK EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU FOR SUPPORTING ELISSA THROUGH THIS JOURNEY. She still has a long ways to go. We welcome your support, love, thoughts and prayers.
You never know what tomorrow brings. We are looking for Elissa's rainbow of life.

Love to all❤

(Pic was the flight going to Maui of the last 45 min after her batteries were all used)
