^^^^ This times ten thousand! Hanalei is walking distance to a magnificent beach and walking distance to a small town with a small market, restaurants and shopping.
Sorry, no black sand on Kauai that I know of (and I have been there about a dozen times.)
The small town of Hanalei has a lot of rentals on VRBO
