I don't really "need" them, and use 15 mmHg or less. You start out too high you may not be able to put them on or tolerate wearing them. Start low and work your way up.
Juzo, Jobst are good brands. Mediven uses a layered approach. A pair of 15 mm on top of another pair of 15 mm gives higher compression, but is not so difficult to put on. There are assistive devices for this,
Doff'n'donner, which is really the cat's ass for this sort of thing, or various frames you stretch it over and slide your foot into.
