I have had two lab rescues. First one was perfect from day one, the other was a spaz for years and is now perfect. They do need exercise.

I had a golden retriever as a kid. As much as I think labs are fantastic, goldens seem less spastic. Agree with female as well.

If your son is on board with walking? Either is great.
