Costa Rican version for breakfast is called Gallo Pinto whereby the beans and rice are all mixed together (usually black beans) and it's sort of dry. Cajundaddy nailed it on the rest of the world. Very common in the Caribbean where the beans (red or black, even lentils) are "soupy" over white rice. Staple food down here....
