To the original question, I would sell the 86. The 74 is more fun to drive, lighter , if you wanted to make the engine even more fun you will not be hog tied by the state. A good car to play with.
In an ideal world you really should buy a Targa, not instead of but in addition to the 74 Coupe.
And the 74 would be that nice hot rod car to play with and the Targa would be the tour car.
I understand the open car appeal, especially from some one who lives and drives in the mountains, so much of the view is blocked by the top of a closed car.
