What sort of class would of been running cars that looked like Group C back in the early 90's?

I remember one time when I was a kid, out west, in a parking lot there was a huge gathering running RC's. There were obviously two different scales, but with the same look. Some classes faster than others. Its all I remember, but I've never on the net seen a class I recognize as what I saw.
