Just going on memory here, that particular spoon came out some time ago (Early 90s).
I believe it was designed and marketed as a defensive weapon. It was for for folks who were stuck behind desks, or did most of their job from enclosed spaces, like tankers, or convoy guys and girls. Kinda a very low recoil buzz-saw. It's not very long range. I wouldn't think outside of 50 yards it would be as effective. I think what they wanted was something quick handling and put a lot of teeny tiny holes very fast at close range with hardly any recoil. I would think it looses a lot of its capability being semi-auto. It was designed to be a shredder.
