The GP at the Glen was so cool back then. Basically, all access anywhere u wanted to go. Last race of the year so after the race, all teams would sell stuff for next to nothing - car parts, tires, crew jackets, etc. so they didn't have to haul it back to Europe.
1979 was also the year that Gilles Villeneuve was
9 seconds faster than anyone else in qualifying on Friday during heavy rain. I've never seen anything else like it in F1, even with Senna.
