My mom's grandfather on her mom's side was born in Germany. Came to America as an infant. He made the 1889 land run and settled in northern Oklahoma. My dad's grandmother on his mom's side came to America from a different area of Germany and settled in PA, but moved to Oklahoma in 1900.
They all stayed in Oklahoma through the dust bowl days. Imagine dust blowing everywhere, and 100+ temps for over 30 days in a row, and no electricity or running water.
