I don't have mildots but a crosshair that starts thick and transitions can do the same thing. For me, it was on different powers to determine range. Sometimes I would be lucky and the thick post part could act as a zero point for some known distance.
Depending on pellet design, weight, and MV you could go further than 20 yards. I'd limit your range to where you can accurately hit a gobbler's head within the limits of your rifle, ammo, and skill
