My guess is that neither show is targeted at you or your demographic. You aren't supposed to understand. Both shows, I'm sure have plenty of people that can identify with them, or see themselves as being just one small step removed from either but can identify with the humor. And it's comedy, not real. People laugh at exaggeration or satire which is likely what most of the comedy in both is.
