Australia is such a weird place that it's hard to understand any of this from an American POV.
He wasn't "going to be home on the day of delivery", so he had his BIL take delivery of the car?
WTF. They only deliver new Ferraris to your house in that country? Like a UPS package? Do they not have this new fangled thing called a ****ing dealership? In California, you have to take delivery of any new car, (or used car from dealership),
at the dealership. No exceptions. Doesn't matter how much of a big shot or celebrity you are. We sold Eddie Murphy a new 928 in '86, he was seriously pissed that he had to come to dealership to sign papers. He thought he could just do the whole thing over the phone or through his assistants. Countless other stars and big shots bought cars but did not make a stink about taking delivery @ dealer.
The guy who drove it into tree got 12 months of "community order"(?), which does not mean community service because he also got x-number of "unpaid work". What a weird place.
Anyhow, you can't fix schit-for-brains. And that car is for parts, now.
