All took place a few miles north of me.... in the UK. The link takes you an Oz media see, however it took place in the UK.

Home delivery of such cars is pretty normal here. The car is delivered like a parcel and anybody you nominate can 'sign for it'.....the registration and ownership is already sorted (in person) before delivery.

The person who signs for it may well not be covered by the owner's insurance. Why should they be? They are signing for a parcel, not to drive the car.

Over here you can have a number of different policies; cover for the person to drive any car with permission, cover for the owner to drive the car plus named drivers, cover for anyone to drive the car with permission. Clearly in this case the insurance cover did not extend to the person who was actually driving the car. Its a criminal offence here to drive a car without insurance.
