Because the enthusiasm for Porsche is fueled by the racing provenance. That's why the Speedster is the most popular 356, it was the most raced. Same with the 911, the coupe was on the track. No one ever took the checker in a 911 cab or a Targa. The purists view those cars like Cayennes/944's/924's, etc. meaning Porsche did what it had to do to make money, but you aren't going to catch a serious Porsche guy have a 911 cab as his only Porsche, maybe his 3rd or 4th, but if he has to pick only one, it won't be a cab, I can promise you that. Don't get me wrong, I love a 911 cab, good lines and who doesn't want to go topless, but if you are driving a 911 cab be ready to be regarded as a dandy.
