Yes, .308! These guns were/are known as the 1916 "Spanish" Mauser and were made originally in .308 caliber. According to some articles that I have read, the Spanish army had their .308 round loaded to a slightly lower velocity to reduce recoil a bit. I don't know if the guns would do well with full or hot loads or not. Probably a gun that would be best to load for using a slightly reduced load. Other than that, they are fun guns to own/shoot. I had one that someone had "sporterized" the stock and could not find another original stock with all the hardware attached. I think I finally sold the one that I had for about $150 and was happy to get that!
