I won a datsun B210 once, sort of
I played football in high school and one of the things we had to do every season was sell raffle tickets to help pay for equipment, trophies, etc.
For every 10 tickets a player sold he could got one for free.
Grand prize was a brand new Datsun B210. (prolly cost less than $3k back then new).
This raffle was organized by the booster club and my mom was the booster club secretary. She picked out the grand prize, paid for it, all that boogey-woogie.
I ended up selling 40 tickets so I got 4 for free.
You had to be 18 or over to win and I was only a sophomore so I put my mom's name on the 4 tickets.
Fast forward to half-time at homecoming game: the athletic director and my mom were on the 50 yard line for the drawing to see who won the car.
The AD pulls a ticket and hands it to my mom and she calls .... her name.
Everyone was all het up saying fix, rigged, whatever.
She said she didn't even buy a ticket. It was a mess that took a while to sort out, but eventually we got the car.
my brothers and I all got a turn driving that car to school, racked up a bunch o'miles over the next 10 years.
