I like the look of the Honda. I have a BMW G310R and the price is about the same as the Honda. However, don't forget taxes and prep (they never mention that). Out the door, I paid around $6500.

Your 30-50 mile range is probably about the max. I also have a 1200 and I much prefer it for freeway and longer rides. The 310 is about the same ride height but you feel a little cramped on the seat and you are positioned much closer to the handle bars. I had to get used to the smaller bike as I found myself leaning ahead of the mirrors and have to sit more upright to use them. Upright position is nice but when going fast, you tend to want to lean down to prevent wind buffeting.

The Honda is similar to the BMW with the raised passenger seat. This comes in handy because the bike is too small for bags and so you will end up using a back pack if going to the store. The pack will rest on the passenger seat and so it doesn't feel like you've got a pack on. I brought home 3 gallons of paint from Home Depot and that was heavy but when resting on the passenger seat, I couldn't tell it was there.
