The Isle of Wight connection is the only commercial hovercraft service operating in Europe. Most other routes were squeezed out by catamarans in the 1980s and 1990s.

Hovercraft shipped for Columbia - Bland Group

Griffon Hoverwork recently won a contract with the Columbian Navy, to supply eight 2000TD hovercraft. The first three were shipped to Columbia at the beginning of September, on time and on target for acceptance at the end of the month.

The hovercraft will be deployed in the Amazonian basin to combat insurgencies and drug trafficking.

Columbian Defence Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon said ''This will allow our marines to access the more remote and difficult areas like jungle rivers and creeks.''
