Morels pop up wherever they want. People have been trying to propogate the things for years and years. Every once in a while, somebody claims to have disoverd the secret. Nope.

They popped up one year in the GF's lawn, then under a bunch of spruce trees, then where a bunch of mulch got spread.

Expert shroomers do know where they tend to grow; usually in older, undisturbed mixed hardwoods with a lot of organic compost. Developers love to build neighborhoods right on top of them, though.
