There was no benefit to throwing the last game. In fact, winning would have given them the Eastern Conference (home ice advantage up to the Cup finals).
Why did they crash and burn at the end?
-More than anything, they were tired! 3 games in 4 days
(5 games in the last 8). Many games were OT in the last 6 weeks. A lot of players had been working hard the last month or two.
-Also, some players just getting back from injury and haven't shaken the rust off yet.
I am hoping that their 3 day rests before game 1 against Tampa will recharge the batteries. We shall see.
