2006 or 2007? Either way, this is an e90 correct? I have not seen any posts to speak of on those.

Assuming that it is similar to the e46, clearance to work is an issue. I did one of mine with the fan and shroud in place and the other while I was doing the cooling system. With the belts and fan and shroud off, it was a lot easier to get all the alternator bolts in and out with other stuff out of the way, but possible either way.

On both my e46s, the wires on the alternator were so tight that I feared I would break the alternator, so I just laid the alternator aside with the wires connected, That crowded things a little.

Other than that, it is a simple job. Lift off the alternator, unbolt the oil filter bracket, clean up the pools of oil from the side of the block, and put it all back together.
