This has got to be one of the stupidest marketing campaigns I've ever seen.
Are they trying to target the squids? The deep urban, "respect" seeking crack dealer? Is there a rap soundtrack to this? *That* crowd won't warm up to this bike until the Chaparrals of this world start hawking cheap Chinese crap to "customize" it.... They really need a guy in shorts, a T-shirt, Oakley shades, and of course, a backwards baseball hat riding this....maybe a ho' in a thong on the back. (Man, I can't shake that image ;-) ) Mike |

The core bike looks great! I like the aggressive no-nonsense styling. Its got bite to sunstantiate the bark... I look forward to it being released. The downloadable wallpapers on the website are worth a look.

I agree that the marketing seems a little out of line, but not nearly as much so as some stuff by say KTM for the international market.
It offends my sense of order, but I guess you have to accept that in order to draw buyers away from the other "Hooligan" bikes; you need a "Hooligan" marketing plan. Triumph has a new Speed Triple on the way, Ducati has the S4R and both of those bikes are probably cheaper than the K1200R. What is most disappointing about the website is that there is apparently very limited information there; either that or I am too stupid to find it, which is within the realm of possibility. What I really want to know is: Can I get a Cup Replika? If not what colors can I get? (in the United States) What kind of wind protection can I get for it? What kind of Luggage can I get for it (small top box?) When can I have it and how much is it going to cost me?

DuckRyder, check out www.k1200r.de for images in the picture gallery (bildergalerie) - here you can see colour schemes and lugguge. I'm sure more information will be posted on site progressively.

Anyone who knows for sure please feel free to set me straight. I have to wonder why BMW chose to change the luggage design from a nice smooth case in glossy black or body color, to the dull grey with straps style. I understand the cases open and do have straps allow them to expand with a nylon bladder, but it seems incongruous with he overall design and does not look as integrated as the other cases.

Hey Robert,
The K1200R should use the same side bags as the K1200S and most accessories should be interchangeable with exception to the windscreen. I am pretty sure they will offer a powercup replika as a model here in the US, but as we discussed Saturday, BMW has not be forthcoming with marketing collateral or commiting to colors, price and options. Handle Bar position on the standard K1200R will be more upright and the Replika could very well match the K1200S handle bar. K1200R are estimated to arrive in June, more to come and look forward to getting you a ride on the K1200S soon.
