So what is the Final Verdict?
The K1200S does not seem to be causing the Earth to rip apart at the seams...
I've already seen a few used ones for sale at greatly reduced prices. It does not look like the bike is the Watershed Event BMW hoped for. And now the K1200R is discontinued. I actually liked that one. The K1200GT will probably be the sole survivor from this debacle. Can anyone set me straight?

I hadn't realised that the K1200R has been discontinued. Will it still be available through 2006?
I've got to get these house projects off my back & get some more money back in the Kitty. I was hoping to purchase a K bike after the model run had 2 or 3 years under its belt. Schneller

In the end, I couldn't rationalize the money at this point in time. Despite a great dealer and a great motorcycle My brain just won't let my hand write an 18,000.00 motorcycle check at this point.
Hopefully one day I will own a BMW, but for now its back to the bike I always regretted selling... At least one similar.

The K1200R isn't discontinued. Are you thinking of the Powercup?

K1200R is not discontinued. Visit K1200S/R forums and will find new riders more than smitten with their new K bikes. It is an outstanding successor to the KRS. Nothing more, nothing less. And FWIW, previously owned 12GS bikes are appearing at dealers with notably reduced prices. Doesn't mean the bike is a failure.
But for sure, the press (to the extent it matters) is much more enamored with the KS than they ever were with its predecessor... MCN (Rare five stars), Motorcyclist (KR MOTY), and many others too numerous to mention... Australia, Austria, U.K. and even Motorrad (Germany, with some bias) gave the KS its highest score ever, any bike (incl the GS), outscoring the VFR, the long time record holder. I am waiting for the r1200s. Have to ride it.....but the k12s is the bike of my dreams. I just refuse to be a guniea pig... so i will be patient. Next fall, it will be a k12s, r12s, or r12gs....unless BMW sits with thumb up A$$ and does not fix the probs that so many complain of. At a certain dealer, there are 3 k12s that need extensive upgrades. All sorts of head-aches. I don't play that!

FWIW, have zero, that's zero issues with the '05 KS I ride. No need for any updates, enhancements, or fixes. Can compare it to other nice bikes have experience with. Next generation sporting ride imho.

Also, the K1200R came 2nd in the International motorcycle of the year.
AMCN(Australia's biggest and most respected motorcycle magazine) gave the K1200R 'naked bike of the year' award, and 2nd in the 'bike of the year' award. It has lived up to expectations. |

The reason the Power Cup races were discontinued is that BMW are pulling out all their sponsorship in Moto GP.
At first it may not seem much, but they supplied the course cars and bikes as well as cars for ferrying around VIPs.

Hi Motoman, there's a lot to like about the K1200R. I'm really enjoying mine.

The new K1200GT is a bike I would consider and I really like no boring/soulless 4 cylinder motorcycles...
The K1200S is for me the nicest looking bike on the market but unfortunately too small of a tank, bags and no luggage rack. The K1200R discontinued? No,only the Powercup is and hopefully there will be a new R1200S-Boxercup in 2007 as also a more sport-touring oriented version of that bike with bigger tank, real 2 seats and ST-hardbags/luggage rack that would be the BMW worth replacing the R1100S... But as far as 4 cylinders for sport and tour go the new GT looks like the ticket... Chris |

Hi Chris, I wouldn't say the 4-cylinder engine in boring. Its different and perhaps doesn't offer the sheer involvment on the boxer, but its fun to listen to the induction roar and the smooth woosh of power that just keeps going like a jet. I like to visualise myself in a Me-262 when on the K1200R, whereas the R1100S was more like a Me-109.

Sometimes when I ride my bike, I really feel like I'm some kind of old Fokker.

When I was on my first (red) R1100S I used to imagine myself as a WWI ace banking through the traffic. The boxer engine really lent itself for that kind of fun!
