Tires, yes, tires. Thoughts?

Dunlop Roadsmart 3 vs. Continental RoadAttack 3.
Anyone try both? or one or the other?
I am leaning towards Conti, but both sound good.
This would be for my R11S for the occasional long tour here on the East coast of USA but more for spirited riding here in VT and upstate NY. No chicken strips, eh.

I have always had a preference for Michelins but the RoadAttack’s I’ve tried stuck great wet or dry.

Run Dunlop’s for years, the Road Smart 2 was one of Dunlop’s cock up’s and the 3 is made like the 1,but decided it was time for a change and now run either Mich Power RS or Road 5’s which I have on the S.

What size is the rear rim? If you need a 170/60 rear tire ("proper fit" for the narrow rim), Michelin only makes the Pilot Road 5 in a GT which, I think, is a heavier tire for a heavier bike. Can anyone confirm that? My 2004 1100S has the PR 4 GT on it and I am looking to replace both tires with Contis, too.The 4 GT seems a bit "wooden", heavy. I run 35/ 38 solo and 38/ 42 two up with large bags loaded. I read here, recently, that 34/36 solo might be better.

Ballsy topic.

I had 3 sets of Michelin Pilot Road 2 (I think that was the series) when I had my R1100S. I have had Michelin Pilot 3's, 4's and now a set of Pirelli Angel GT on the R1200S. I think the Pirelli's are a little less grippy cold.

On my '98 VFR, I only rode Metzler Roadtec Z6. I would put them on the R, but they don't offer a 190/50. I may try a set of the Z8's after this rear wears down

Michelin makes a 170/60 rear tire that's called the Michelin Road 5 Trail -

Thank you all. Running Pilot Roads now which is what was on bike when purchased used. No complaints with them. Lots of great reviews on both the Conti Road Attack 3 and the Dunlop Roadsmart 3. Tire size on my R11S are 120/70 17 and 180/55 17.

I like road attacks. Road Attack 2 EVO Hypersport. I like the name "Hypersport" and the funky tread design.

I may put these on my R nineT though and try the Road Attack III tires. I don't know..

Pirelli Diablo Rosso IIIs. I've used that line for years for all sorts of riding including track days (not on the R bikes though). They are sticky and predictable. Despite the R11s heft, and mine, they still last a while.

I don't recommend Pirelli Angel GTs. Both tires have an odd wear pattern and as they wear, the front end feels wonky, long before it's time to change them. I only ran those on the R11S before I switched to the Diablo Rosso IIIs like I run on the HP2, the Daytona 675, and the old Ducati.

Man you are always talking about those Q3s! I want to try them but I every time I try a
different brand I keep going back to Michelins. What do you like about them?

You know Sergio the Q3's are superseded by the Q3+. You're running old rubber, better switch it up. Personally I've been running Bridgestone S21's & then S22's as they wear out. Killer sticky with good wear, 4k plus miles & I ride hard & fast always.

I thought the s21s were ok but I never felt super comfortable on them. I went
through 2 sets but maybe something's wrong with my set up. Lot's of folks swear by
them.

I ran mostly Michelin pilot powers before & find the Bridgestones a step up in stick & wear. Eventually I'll give Sergio's Dunlops a try too. What I liked about the Bridgestones is they roll over into corners instead of fall into them like the Michelins. I have the s22's on 2 bikes, the Aprilia & zx14 & the last set of s21's on the beemer. Both are good tires.

That was a good read, I've been thinking about asking the question for when I'm ready to swap out what's on mine now. Funnily enough I haven't even looked to see what tires are on it.

Bridgestone currently has a $60/pair rebate until 4/30: https://bridgestonerewards.com/FindRewards

The T31 GT is a very nice sport touring tire. You can get a set for $235. - $60. = $175. I bought mine from rockymountainatvmc.com

As mentioned, the Bridgestone's round profile yields consistent, progressive lean that I like (unlike the V profile Michelins which feel like they flop over). Also, I live in TX and the summer heat raises hell with wear on tires optimized for rain use. I've been through many sets of both. You'll need the GT variant to obtain the 170/60 size.

I have about 6k miles on Pirelli Angel GT on my R11s.... got them on a great clearance price. I’ve found they feel very predictable in turns and sticky enough. I mostly commute on the interstate but do get a chance to push through some fairly tight 40-50mph turns where I feel like I can push it as fast or faster than my Ducati sport classic with Mich Pilot Power 3

Round, sport touring tires are almost all rounder & stiffer than sport tires to give more mileage & weight carrying advantage.
