those bags are very small. otherwise, i like the package. great entry-level touring bike. not sure there is much like it on the market, unless you consider a VFR entry level.

Yup, bags are small, but I'd sure like to see them on the R12S.
How long before somebody makes a mount?

I was hoping it would be more like an R80ST then an 800cc Sport Tourer with the worlds funkiest bags. Oh, well.

The ST moniker seems to have nothing to do with what it did back in the 80ST days. I liked those little beasts. Friend's had a 1050 kit in it. With the 80ST's low gearing, it really launched.

Don't those bags look like that because they can be expanded with a soft extension? They do look funky, but I could put up with them for as infrequently as I use mine. I agree with Roger; someone needs to get those to fit on the R12S.

Gawd, those bags are ugly. They remind me of the netting found on the inside of a cargo plane. Give us hard bags with easily removable brackets - like on the R1100S.

Pretty sweet looking. If it combines the power of my Ducati Monster S2R (800cc twin) with the touring ability of my wife's F650CS it should be one helluva bike. Throw in ABS, Heated Grips, Bags, etc. and it sounds like the perfect bike.
The MSRP (before options) needs to be below $10k or BMW may have destroyed their chance of crossover sales before they even began. The bags look unique and are becoming somewhat of a BMW brand identity on the sporty models. I guess they don't look any worse than most aftermarket soft luggage. Like most I would prefer hard cases that are 100% waterproof.

Everyone is talking about the bags and not about the belt drive. What about that?

Just some more pics...rear swingarm looks very nice, a shame the bike is so porky. Seems the rear shock lies horizontal (probably because the fueltank sits under the seat). A bike like the F800S deserves a nice upside down fork.

Well, it's not HORRIBLE.
Lack of upsidedown doesn't bug me, but if it's damperrod instead of cartridge, then it does. The japanese manage to put cartridges in many performance bikes above 5 grand, and increasingly, some below. No excuse for damper rods on a $9000 premium model. I deon't think we know what iti is yet. The lowers look a LOT like the old F650 fork though, which would be a shame.

Who's designing bikes for BMW nowadays? What's up with all this "angularity".
I think beemer should hire some Italian designers for once.

Like the makers of the Futura are going to go organic?
Old planes gave us dustbin streamliners. New planes this angular stuff. Blame Grumman and Boeing.
