...it's the light if it has carbon fiber all over and no ABS, 5.5" rear rim... don't ask the oil question... DON'T!

Oh, and welcome to the nut-house!

Welcome, brocklanders! Main tip-off would be a black engine block. Use 20W/50 made for motorcycle engines.

I know of at least one 2001 Light (only year offered) that DOES have ABS, straight from the factory.
CF panels for gas tank and headlight surrounds, CF spark plug covers, 5.5" wheel, long sport shocks (yellow springs), CF heel guards, CF seat cover, CF belly pan, blacked engine and trans, black plastic starter cover, CF cover on upper triple brace. The CF was BMWs "blue-thread", no one else used that variety. From what i can see, yours seems to be a Light.

for oil questions and such ("such" meaning most anything else that you might possibly think someone else on this board has ever asked in the last 5 years), learn to use the search function, or grow thick skin.

Welcome, my niece had twins (boys) in Houston yesterday! Please please use the search function on oil or use what the previous owner did--after all the bike is still running. Don't use heavy oil in a light R11S. Why would you put ornamental CF on a bike you're trying to lighten up. Is that a oxymoron?

Hey Welcome,

Nice bike. Don't be surprised when it uses some oil. This is normal.
