Pit Bull pit stand

anyone here removed a stock center stand and installed the spools for the Pit Bull stand? Do the races in the frame for the old center stand have to come out to install the spools? If so, how in the world do you get them out?
thanks, ama

Hmmm... not sure if the races would have to come out, but I have seen the spools in other threads around here. I guess I would use a large punch and a BFH to push the race through if need be.

I did write Pitbull a few weeks back looking for the stand that uses the spools.

I've heard nothing but good things about your products, and am looking for a rear stand for my 2001 BMW R1100S. I've seen some older pictures on the forums of a Pit-Bull stand that has spools that mount to the frame of the bike, just forward of the rear tire, that the stand mates to but I no longer see that model available on your website, nor does anything come up when I search for my bike model number.

Any chance you still offer a rear stand that fits my bike?
And they responded-

I believe the model changed in 2002. We did front and rear stands for the "boxer cup" style R1100S but under contract to BMW and they are only available through BMW dealers. The rear is p/n 99 99 0 005 290 and the front is 99 99 0 005 289. Please call or email if we failed to answer any questions. Thanks.

So, I planned the next time I was at the dealer I would check things out.

The rear is BMW only, like Pitbull said. But the front is the same as the K12 front except it's Pitbull gold instead of BMW silver. The K12 front is slightly more narrow than the universal front stand and fits the R11S perfectly.

to install them properly, the bronze bushings need to come out- i'd fabricate some sort of puller and use a blow torch, I suppose. that said, it's not absolutely necessary- you can still install the spools with out removing the bushings- the stand will work, but it won't be "perfect"

I have added the rear spools to my bike recently. You have to press the rear steel spring bushings out of the frame in order to get the aluminum pitbull spools into the frame. I fabricated a puller using a bolt and nut with washers and an oversized socket (ID of socket larger than the steel bushing OD. They will press right out when you tighten the nut and bolt. Once they oem steel bushings or sleeves as some might call them are extracted you can easily press the spools into the frame. Hope this helps.

thanks, Brandon............I installed the Pit Bull spools this morning. I ended up using a Dremel to slice through the bushings......they came out easy after that. Ruined the bushings, but I'm sure they're relatively cheap if I ever want to reinstall my center stand.
