So you'll do this with a backpack, right?

GPS, on a sport bike, an arguably exotic sport bike, or so we and BMW would like to think? Your not helping. If I want tunes with my riding action, I'll watch "Faster" -again.

The only thing robbin' juice from my ignition is radar detection. I need only hear from my bike and the environment, go where I've already determined I'll arrive, and be genuinely surprised to entertain any notion that can actually compete with the challenge of surviving LA traffic or campaigning endless So Cal Mnt roads.

Sport bikes by nature aren't comfortable enough to get lost on, and if they were (which mine actually is) they likely get little more than 40 high performance mpg, so you can't get too far astray on 3 gallons -which is usually the point isn't?

You must have the small tank option on your 11S, mine holds 4.7. ;)

Sergio, will you give us a report on that mount? I am mildly interested in it, but it seems the weight out on the end would stress then corners (even if they are welded strong) or cause it to vibrate.

SergioK 06-28-2009 07:03 PM

The mount worked great. I need to angle it back a little more (flatter/horizontal) so I can see the screen better. I screwed up this weekend by not transferring my m/c waypoints to the unit but the nerd in me likes to see exactly the route I rode (tracks laid down) this entire weekend. I logged over 800 miles over the past three days. The weight of the eTrex isn't too much of a factor but hell, the mount is so simple that if I detect cracks, I can hammer out a new one in less than 15 minutes.

And umm... in response to 'Sport bikes by nature aren't comfortable enough to get lost on'. It's not so much for direction finding but for 'opportunities' that arise. If I know I'm only 20 or 30 min from another fun road, I tell it to navigate me there. And a footnote on comfort, I forgot to weigh my backpack but it probably tipped the scales at 30lbs. Enough clothes/tools/niceties for 3 full days of fun. After the first 10 minutes, I forgot that it was on my back. ;) The only discomfort is downhill sections with crappy pavement... my wrists go 'ouch'!

Most of the guys that know me and how I load up my 11S know that I take EVERYTHING and then some. So, when it came to loading up for a three day trek, I could hear myself just grumbling about lack of space to pack everything I wanted. In the end, I love it now. A couple changes of underwear, some flat shoes for downtime, pants and a shirt and I'm golden!

Maybe I'll ditch the OEM tankbag and get something bigger but then I think... it'd be just that much more junk I'd be transporting.

Admit it Sergio, in the back of you mind you have the plans for a set of ammo can panniers for the HP2S.:D

That's why I went with the Cortec, Sergio. That Gucci bag was this a baguette to me. Three days with my LL Bean backpack and the Cortec will get me thru 5-6 days. The under armor is the key to light packing and a pair of Crocs. Shorts and a polo and the 25 cal beretta and I'm set.

Funny you mention beer... after I emptied out my backpack Tony (tm1100s) took me 2up on his 12S and we managed to take a 12 pack of Pacific Claro to the hotel. I figure if I was traveling solo I wouldn't need a 12 pack of beer but it's good to know I can haul the important stuff when needed! :D
