Why I'll never order from Southwest Moto again.

I just cancelled an order for just shy of 400 bucks with Southwest Moto Tires. Here’s why. After I received confirmation of my order for 3 tires, I responded with the following message:

This information is correct. Kindly do not sell my name and contact information, including my street or email address. Thank you. tjs

This is a standard request I make of anyone I do business with online and if you don’t want junk mail or spam, you should too. Get a load of the response I got back from someone named blaine (sic) at Southwest Moto:

WE have been in business since Jan 1 of 2000 and have never sold, or given away any customer information. We do not store your information for future orders nor do we email you for sales or other crap. We did not solicit your business this time nor will we in the future. YOu found us, not the other way around. If you are as good as we are then you do not have to seek out business, it will find you. If you want us again , we will still be here. You will only hear from us if we hear from you first.
Thanks for your order and have a merry Christmas which is a day of celebration of the Birth of Christ.

blaine

Happy Holidays to you too, blaine.

Blaine has a reputation as a bit of a kook. I assume what bothers you is the religious reference. Personally, I would prefer my internet business to stay away from any statements about religion, but I wouldn't avoid a vendor because they stick something in like this - I try to be easy-going about this because although I'm basically an atheist, I understand that religion can't be totally separated from our culture. Basically, as long as we stop fighting wars based on religious beliefs, I'm Okay with it creeping in now and then. Southwest Moto has always done well with me with respect to handling tires and a couple questions I've asked over email, so they'll remain one of my preferred vendors.

?? I thought most of the world recognized Christmas was a celebration of the birth of Christ.... Away in a manger... Oh little town of bethlehem.... Even Linus on Charlie Brown..tells the Christmas story.

Why is it in the last 5 years... offensive to say merry Christmas???

I agree with that... Since I own a business in a small town, I keep my politcal stuff to myself. And tend to shy away from other businesses that try to use Crosses/Fish in there business logo.

Bill, to answer that question accurately would hijack this thread with a ferocity reserved for carpet-bombing cities.
A clue, though: because multiculturalism (not offending ANYBODY ANYWHERE is sure to offend SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE) is necessary to dilute a national identity as we the people are easier to oppress and control when we're divided, broke, hungry and worried about everything falling apart.
The recent death of the economy and gang-rape of lady liberty is a very deliberately planned act....and only the start of the real darkness.
Now that I've gone OT.....MERRY CHRISTMAS...and if someone doesn't like THAT....f*** 'em

I think I'd be more bothered by the obvious arrogance and rude tone in the response... OpenBoatt's request is a valid and legit one these days...

As most know, I am not religious, yet I don't see a problem with anyone expressing their appreciation of the reason for the holidays...

If I would have gotten that response I would likely have responded the same way...

Hey Tom,

I bought the last couple of sets of tires from these guys http://www.derbycycles.com/cgi-bin/eShop/index.cgi

Good price and fast delivery. Also I'm set up to mount and balance at home now. So let me know and you can come over and use my machine.

If you put the Icthus <)))>< on your business logo you had beter walk your talk. Maybe Blaine hasn't been riding enough lately also. We need to get him to post on the "Is this forum is getting meaner" thread.

I liked this non-offensive card I got in the mail from Mr. Carlton...
Here is a scan of it.

Thanks Bill. I'll try those guys.

The season's greeting at the end didn't bother me really--though I'm not a fan I can roll with that. I was offended by the tone of the response. It's a question of common sense; I spend my money with you, and you essentially tell me to F-off? Not twice you don't...

Everyone have a great holiday season. Thanks for the discussion. obt

I send them money, they send me tires. I didn't know there was any more to it.

I've bought many tires many times from SWMoto and the service and price have always been excellent. I once had occasion to meet Blaine in person whilst in Tucson. He's opinionated and outspoken. We discussed life, liberty and desert racing with his family. His passion for all the above was intense (to understate) and beguiling. I got the impression that our politics were far apart but I don't really care, I liked him and it was a really fun conversation. I've not spoken to him since but I'd not hesitate to buy from him or heartily recommend his business to a friend. In fact, I'll gladly buy him a cup of coffee, anytime.

I stick with Bill's initial observation... where's your beef with what he said? Sure he could have been more smooth in delivery but his message is clear - statements by a strident individual who really cares about personal liberty - reassurance that your information will NOT EVER be shared. If you care about your privacy, this is probably a business you should choose to patronize.

I believe it very bad form to undermine someone's livelihood capriciously. You did include his communication verbatim thereby enabling the reader to draw their own conclusion. Thank you for that. And you did not recommend that others not patronize SWMoto based on your experience. Thank you for that also. You reported the facts and your conclusions with which I disagree.

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukkah

I've only had a couple of glasses of wine and that was a few hours ago, nevertheless, I see nothing wrong with the reply. But is Christmas really the celebration of the birth of JC? I thought that was the 6th of January when the kings rolled up with their SUV's, spinners, etc. and lavished the new born king with bling.
