HP2 Sport Mileage

I just hit the 10K miles on my HP2. Does anybody have high mileage on their HP2?

I went to the track only once. it was a lot of fun at the track. I really love the low rpm torque and the power assist of this bike. Most of the miles on this bike are on the back roads of Southeast Michigan. This is the bike of choice for short trips. I had this bike for 10 months now.

1k miles per month is a pretty good clip for the HPS. I'll be very interested in how she fairs. What tyres are you running and which oil did you go with?

Bubba,
ok, tomorrow the rePS are meeting with the shop to discuss my bike and compensation.
Both the sales dept and the service dept say that this bike should be replaced or returned and compensation should be done. I compiled data from the other shop to give to the rePS.
(BTW the other shop has another hp2s thats having intermittent starting problems.)
I have told them that I don't want cash but credit to be applied to other BMW's that I will get,(a GS and the in-line four). I will inform you of the decision.
Jeff
PS the hp2s is a great bike.

Jeff, I am sorry about your bike. I know you had a lot of fun with it. I use Michelin power 2 CT on my bike. I got 8K miles out of the first set of tires with 1k left on the tires. Tires are not as safe at the tread indicators. You need good tires when riding a sports bike. These tires came with the bike. These tires had no road noise and grip good in rain and corners. I use the oil that came with the bike and the bike does not burned any oil. I may have burned 3 oz of oil in 7K miles. The oil is BMW racing oil that came with the bike. The only problem I had so far was the battery at 7K miles. It would not crank over when the bike was hot. It was replace under warranty.

Just came back from the circuit (Zandvoort) and rolled over the 3000 Km
without any problems

I chose for MPP 2ct (from zero km) instead of the Metzler's ...
My dealer uses Belray for all BMW ... so I'm running the 5W60 full synthetic ...
didn't fill any oil yet, but I think I used about 0.1/0.2 L

I got 7,000 on mine. That's likely to climb once my spleen heals since I'm down to just one bike.

Forgive me for stealing the thread for a moment, but I once put 10,000 miles on my bike [Honda 250 Scrambler 1966] in 8 months. At first this might not sound like a lot of miles, but I was living on an island at the time. It only had one main road from one end to the other. Lots of secondary dirt roads though. I wanted to explore as much of it as possible.

Operating at 3000 feet AGL, I'm getting 160 miles before the reserve light comes on. That flogging it pretty hard.

That sounds about right, George. How about oil consumption guys? In 2000 miles I've used less than 1/2 qt.

You guys are getting better fuel economy than me. The light clicks on around 130 for me. Must be this smog ridden air in So Cal... or the sea level elevation. In 5k I've eaten up almost 1 liter of oil... then again, I do allot of engine braking so I expected as much.

The altitude really does help the gas mileage as stated by ckcarr. I'd have to agree after going to Paonia, CO. The RT mileage improved by 12%.
