My R1200R is born
Got the bike today. Too busy doing family things to get a chance to ride it but here's some shots as it was being put together by the dealer...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When I pulled up to the dealer I noticed a white "R" bike out front. No bags on it. I wondered why they hadn't attached the bags. As I got closer I noticed it was an 80th edition Rockster. Haven't seen one of those in a while. My bike was inside. Surrounded by a roped off area. It was WAY better looking than I thought it was going to be even with the bags attached. I should be able to get some riding in tomorrow and I'll take a pic or two and work on a ride report. What I could tell from the short ride home - 1) The bike was very stable. The damper on the front can really be felt...in a good way. 2) Air flow isn't as clean as the HP2S but it's way better than I thought it would be. 3) It's quiet. Can't hear it on the freeway. 4) Very strong pull off the line. The engine feels as smooth as a IL4. 5) Between the bags and the preload set all the way down I've got some work to do on the rear. It felt like a dog wiping it's tail on the lawn when I tried to turn. I'm sure that can be adjusted out.6) It's BEAUTIFUL. The entire bike has a very classy look to it. I'll post up more late tomorrow.

Beautiful.
I can't help noticing how CLEAN a new bike is. And the pristine exhaust too. Note to self: Q-tip treatment for Nemo's cylinder fins tomorrow. ![]() I had thought the R1200R was more of an orphan than the R1200S... but they are popping up all over. I was intrigued by your description of the ride characteristics. Congratulations!! Ian

Congrats on the new bike, now in your hands.
I went for a bigger screen, from Cee Bailey, which I'm still waiting for, so can't comment yet. I put the Ohlin shocks on the other day and man are they something absolutely transform the bike for the better. Waiting on Rizola fat bars and end bar mirrors too! Remus exhaust still waiting, I'm sick of the wait. Must be something with this Global Bull**** that there all going donkey delivery to save money. There's nothing I can fault with this bike, motor does a great job, seating is very good, just changing the bars to get a better look! Looking forward to your impressions! |

Yep, Ohlins are really worth having and they are cheap at the moment.
Don’t forget to set the sag properly and find a good test road to set the damping, correct adjustment makes a big difference. Note, it’s a good idea to take some sag measurements of the bike as standard, the steering behaviour will change if you use different sag settings.

I see you kept the Alpine White that you had on the HPS.
Or is that the silver?

It's white Bubba. Pics don't do it justice. It looks much better in person.

Congrats... I love how sparkling clean those jugs look! The bike seems like it'd be a good compliment to the HP2S.

Excellent choice! I saw one of these at my local BMW dealer and thought it was one of the nicest looking bikes in the shop! Really nice complete package and the bags don't detract from the looks at all. I rode one at the demo days and was still very impressed. It had a small wind screen which actually worked very well at highway speeds.
I hope you enjoy many miles with your new bike... It really is a beauty: )

Naked,
Nice bike. I looked at the same one at the dealer in Melbourne last week. Giving it some serious thought.
