echelons above me at the PD i have heard resistance to lane splitting becuase they think it will cause alot of accidents. is this a reality in CA? I assume they would cite the rider for unsafe passing?

Yeah, I lived in Southern Germany for 3.5 years. Generally speaking German drivers are skilled, and courteous, a somewhat different situation exists most places I have driven in the states. I do think we are better than the Italians though. Driving in Korea in the 90s was fun, it was more like being in a video game than driving on the highway. I am sure they are better now, the general population was just getting used to driving.

+1

Riding in Germany now, previously in ATL , I'd say that in Europe drivers are more rational and therefore predictable -- most places I've been in the state that was not the norm...

I learned to drive in NYC and LI. Lane split/filtered like mad there, and rarely have done in AZ because of legality/illegality. But, I went to a BMW Motorrad Mexico rally in PV/Guadalara a few years ago. When some Mexican BMW buds started weaving in lane, I followed suit just fine, leaving my AZ friends scrathing their heads, and then picking on me for being "mad" (as in crazy). Yeah, like a fox.

thats laughable. alot of agencies are freezing vacancies and even have cops layed off. the photo radar was a self funding contract. the only thing that will get more cops is an ramp up in border violence and a sudden feeling that "we arent safe".

"more with less" will be the Law Enforcement creedo for then next 5 years.

personally, i hope to be teaching unmanned aviation classes by the end of the year.

also, BE THEE WARE! only the contract stuff with DPS is gone. tucson and a bunch of valley agencies have their own, Sierra Vista is working on a contract with redflex for redlight/speed setups that if configured as ive been told they will, should slow down traffic in all the fatal places like gramma screamin in yer ear.

I also heard on NPR today the speed cameras are coming down, no reason given.

it's now good to be a motorcyclist in Az but not a person with brown skin.

Speaking of blowing past you. I was towing my SeaCraft to the keys today. I was overtaking a blue-hair so I entered the high-speed lane to overtake him. Now, it took a little extra time because pulling a 4000 lb boat means I don't have a lot of excess hp to play with. After I passed the guy I moved to the right lane. Well, this young lad in a black 3-series BMW pulls up along side and flips me the bird and I salute him back. This was what his tag said.

As a vet I really appreciated the young a$$ hole. Hope he got where the hell he needed to be.

does that mean he's a Vet too, because here in Ioway, only Vets get the Vet plates. Too funny. Like I said on another thread 360 million all wanting to do there own thing and thinking they're right. It's too bad we have become all about the individual and I am just as bad on the road many times, although I don't flip people off anymore, the poor people riding with me just have to listen to my *****'in. I like to think I am getting better, but it depends on the day and the pain. I would like a pic of the boys with their toys flipp'in each other off, the blue hair was probably a vet too. lol

No problem for me. I pay $25 per year for a national speedcam database that is updated often for my Zumo 660. I use that on the R12S and in my car. It works great with adjustable mileage warnings too.

This definitely shows the age difference, Rob. Reefer to me is the Navy term for refrigerator.

Obviously the word has gone to pot.

I ride and drive a lot in CA, several thousand miles a year on the bike and in rental cars. I love the lane splitting. But I think it only works in the CA because most drivers there are used to it and give the bikes some room. Every time I pick up a rental car at the airport in CA, I totally forget about the lane splitting until I see a bike shoot past me on the hwy. I can't bring myself to do it at any more than 40mph, and even then, I'll usually wait for another group of bikes to pass by and then fall in behind them. But I've been stuck in some traffic jams in AZ in scorching heat and just decided I had to lane split out of there before I passed out. I'd like for that to at least be legal.

Format Document

appears to have been passed as a one year provisional act in maricopa county. I wish this pending stuff was more clearly articulated.... Not sure if or when this would start

It's not passed yet, that's just a reading. It must be voted on by the same senate that passed our newsworthy immigration bill.

Also, it will ease in, so if passed in May, it'll become law July 1 or so.

As for Maricopa County only, and a year, it was always that way: It is a test. Should we fail it, the bill will die a natural death.
