I got popped in town for lane sharing and the cop was incredulous that it was legal in CA. He even went so far as to say it "wasn't fair" for motorcyclists to jump to the head of the queue.

I managed to talk him down but he was all worked up over it. I emailed him the info from the CHP website ... no reply.

Were such an improvement to make it to the statutes, I would still be afraid because it will take a decade for drivers here to get over it.

Yeah right - they just whacked $100m from the DPS budget. Anyway, I'm OK with taking my chances with humans - I know they will take all the factors into consideration, not just the ones which generate the most revenue.

You should see the looks on people's faces when I make a left turn on red from a one-way to another one-way street. Haven't gotten pulled over for it yet, but I'm sure there are a lot of cops who have no idea it's legal. At least in DC they have signs in some areas where one-ways go to other one-ways and it says "Left turn on green only."

many in cages hate or envy anything on two wheels. I read and hear a lot of complaints on the recent bike lanes added around here. Japan and Europe have been doing it for years and it works better for everyone. we all would be better off getting over our pettiness, I know I would.

Tell your momma's (if your still so blessed) and wife, Happy Mothers Day!

The best example of how LEOs hate any m/cs is in NY. There they ticket m/cs for HOV lane use, when Federal Law pre-empts any law NY could pass on the subject.

I wish the AMA would smarten up and conduct a nationwide campaign to educate on the issue. They would earn a lot more membership and be taken more seriously than with their usual noise-making on behalf of the rabid off-road-anywhere crowd.

OT; but its Mother's Day not Wife's Day. Its a day for children to recognize their mothers - this creeping Hallmarkism has got to stop.

I should of put "if you have children" yes I know they are not your momma, but if they raised your children, saying Happy Mothers Day, isn't the same as buying a card. I said be nice, recognize the sacrifice (like the kids would or will until they're older) not feed the monster known as commercialism, but I expect you already knew that.

I'd love to see this country becoming more motorcycle friendly. There is a lot of great roads, great scenery but the current laws and the perception of motorcycle isn't right.
I used to go to work everyday in Madrid on my motorcycle. It was the most efficient way to commute.
Here in NYC is a p.i.t.a. You can't lane sharing, you can't park on the sidewalks, you can't park on the street, the parking lots don't accept motorcycles and if they do they charge like a car (Around $35 per day) If you park on the street you have to remove the plate to avoid a ticket and probable you'll find your bike knock down by a car.
Nobody gives a $hit!.
The NRA can convince the public that owning an assault rifle is the most fundamental right of a human being (nothing against weapons, this is just an example) , the pedal bikers now have the whole city full of bike lanes reducing the actual space for cars, etc.. Every group slowly get laws that benefit them and we can not get a freaking lane sharing law like the rest of the countries in the world or any other law to make riding a more pleasanter and safer experience.
Motorcycling seems to be a hobby, like bowling (nothing against bowling also) . Not a way of transportation.
I'd like to have:
Lane sharing, dedicated parking spot for motorcycles, HOV right of use, cheaper tolls, guardrails with protections for motorcycles.
Also I'd like less rainy days

The question is:

Why we should wait behind the cars?
Why we should be punished by a traffic jam created by cars?

Funnily enough, they do the same thing in Texas. First time I saw it I thought the guy was running of the road.

I know better then to hope AZ drivers learn to exhibit the same behavior. But who knows? We can only hope this bill gets signed into law, and we get to try it on.

That article doesn't explain Brewer's basis for the veto. I thought there were two bills pending, one for the whole state and one for Maricopa Co. on a one year trial basis. So it might not be totally dead yet.

There was a horrific accident about a month ago very close to my last house (I just moved). Four bikers waiting at a red light were hit by a large truck that didn't stop. Riders were crushed under the truck and burned. It was really big news here. It's right next to my gym and I ride over those blood stains and burn marks in the road about 10x per week. Lane splitting wouldn't have saved them, since it was a red light, but I'd not hesitate to break ANY traffic law if I saw a truck barrelling down on me in my mirrors. I really keep an eye on my mirrors now when stopped in traffic. And I was rear ended in my cage three times in three years, while boxed in at red lights. Had I been on a bike, I'd have been able to get out of the way.

Well, it doesn't help when clueless reporters write stories about the bill with headlines like that one you linked to. "Filtering" in stopped traffic is nowhere NEAR the same as "weaving through traffic", which is how it's headlined.

After 10years of construction projects outside the US, finishing in Istanbul & Bursa, Turkey, I thought I could lane-split with the best of 'em - until I did one in Santos, Brazil. No one, absolutely no one does it as fiercly and fearlessly as Brazilians.

Earlier someone commented on German drivers - when I was in Italy the standard joke was that Germans had dicipline but no skill, Italians had skill but no dicipline, and Americans had neither. I'm not sure about the first two, but after returning home I'm pretty sure the last one is correct.
