Aftermarket Gas Cap?

Does anyone know if there are aftermarket gas caps for the R1100S? Been searching with no results so far.

Good suggestion. I checked earlier and nothing in stock but hope to have something arrive in the next few weeks. Was hoping to find something readily available other than OEM if cost effective, but good things come to those who wait, I suppose.

I've got one from the donor bike used to put Lizard on the track. It will need to be rekeyed of course. Flea-bay lists several options of screw on type replacements.

Send me a PM to work out the details.

On another note; does anyone know of a supplier for race-style screw-on fuel tank cap for an R12S? I've looked right though flea-bay and specialist parts suppliers; none for the R12S but many choices for just about any other model and year.

Is the fuel cap on the R1200S special in some way?

broke a gas cap too

funny that, i broke mine on my recent trip to the BMWST unrally in NV.

there are no replacements, its a proprietary design and all that...

i had the Reno dealer just order it in and swapped it in 15mins. there are 3 screws holding the seal on the backside of the cap. remove them, you will see the clip that holds the lock in place, slide it over the lock drops out (need to have the key in the lock), make sure you know the lock orientation when it come out so you can fit it into the new cap, the correct way.

unscrew 6 screws that hold the inlet tube in place install new assembly.

this is worthy of at least one ale...

failing all that go RED-Green .

Well worth a brew for the information. If only we lived in the same time zone. ;-)

gas cap

You might want to ck. a cap from a k1200rs. I think they`re the same. I have a big mac tankbag and can use it on both my 99r1100s and my 04k1200rs. Saw a cap on ebay from a k1200rs for $40.00

Glad to say that earlier today I received a used cap in good condition from beemerboneyard. I paid $50 ($25 less than one I saw on ebay) and would recommend them if you're looking for replacement parts.

good price

i was on the road and knew that if i got home with the broken one, it would cost enough in shipping to canada (for a used one) to almost pay for a new one while in the USA,

hence i just ordered it, but i agree Beemerboneyard is a great source

looks like all the similar caps have been upgraded so even the k1200rs gets the same one at the $120.00 price point if you have to go new.

They have a following wrt the use of Duct tape... saved my trip, i duct taped the old cover down and road for 2 days covering 2300 km before i could get the new cap.

if the women don't find you handsome, at least they should find you handy..
