Very very nice. Got my heart beating fast for an old bike again. From those picture I could almost smell the hot Torco oil vapors venting. Good stuff.

Seems we spent easter in a similar way.
I was in action as a team member in the international 1,000km German Endurance challenge in Hockenheim, Germany this saturday. It was really hot like in mid-summer with 26°C and blue skies. Already too hot to do a 1,000km endurance ride with only 1 bike and 2 riders followed by a pause of only 30 min. and then followed by a 14 lap sprint race (with change of rider between lap 6 and 8) We finished as the best BOXER TEAM, overall in 5th place in our class which was >up to 1200cc, up to 3-cyl. and up to 160 hp (DIN) < against superior bikes (new KTM, Triumph 3-cyl., benelli 3-cyl. and the unavoidable Ducati-armada and we (our 2 riders) were rewarded a prize cup. In the first 8 laps our first driver (my friend RIKA) managed to gain 2nd position, but our 2nd rider Jan had problems with his stomach plus some of the strong Ducati teams spared their better rider for 2nd position. 5th place for a small "just for fun" privateer team with a BMW Boxer against professional teams, some of them with retired, former professional riders (one former multiple german superbike national champion) professional teams with lots of hands and their own sponsors with newer, stronger watercooled bikes is like a win. The odds were against us as we couldn't use the strong bike (conrod bearing failure) and had to settle with the reserve R1200S (that one in blue & silver #154). The next boxer team (HP2S #163) was formed also by friends of our s-boxer.de forum, finishing in 6th position. We shared one box together, in fact we were like a big boxer family. Besides all that is was great fun. Here are just some few pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Sofatester; 04-24-2011 at 11:40 AM.. |

Hi Phil, nice to hear from you.
During that event I was only a team member and not a rider. My friend RIKA as #1 driver and owner of the bike asked me to help him. He called me "Race director" but that really meant something like "gofer" ![]() But it was great fun. I was not fit enough to participate in a very hard all-day-long endurance race and amoung our "Boxer-gang" there are several others with more Hockenheim experience. So there was no question to step back and help the others. It was a real high-class event, nothing for old, unfit mediocre "just for fun racers" like me. A mixed starting grid with active pros, even v.i.p's , retired former pros, very good amateurs and hopeful young talents. One of the participants was Arne Tode, German superstock champion, in 2010 Moto GP Moto 2 rider. A lot of riders were bearers of an international pro racing license. Among of some of the older riders were former crack german national Superbike championship riders, one of them a former champion (that guy won our class in which we finished 5th). Here is a link to some really great race pics of that event: http://www.sportingpicture.com/veranstaltung_199_-1_1000%20km%20von%20Hockenheim%20-%20Hockenheimring%20%28D%29%20%2823.04.2011%29.htm l The 3 Boxer Teams had the #153 #163 and #154. My team was #154. Just select these numbers in the pull down menu with the text "Teilnehmer" ( = participants) . Have fun. ![]() Last edited by Sofatester; 04-25-2011 at 11:26 AM.. |

Hello MacFly.
Thanx for your comment, I'll search the web for more pics of that event. But first I want to apologize that I did interfere your thread. That happened by accident, because I looked at your pics and found them so great that I posted my news directly here instead of starting a new thread. Today I looked at your pics for the 3rd time. Really amazing. Thanx for sharing them. ![]() |
