I'll join in on one of these rides, but I'm grounded at the moment - waiting for a new ECU to come in.

Ah, I see you have found it....
What happened to your ECU?
Still the dreaded Italian Electronic Gremlins?

SergioK 10-29-2011 01:44 PM

I went up early this am while the wife and kid slept... brrrr it is cold up there in the early morning!

I don't know if I can make it this week... work seems to get in the way of things.

Yes, the Italians are apparently lacking in patents

...maybe cuz the americans have snatched them all???

2wheelmike 10-31-2011 09:11 AM

I've missed out on the last two of these rides and sadly will miss another. I'm waiting on parts to fix my smashed up rear brake.

SergioK 10-31-2011 09:35 AM

Hurry up before the fires, rains, mudslides, etc take ACH out yet again!

bradzdotcom 10-31-2011 09:56 AM

seriously sergio.
if the long term history of that section of road comtinues to be consistent, the window of opportunity to ride it is very, very narrow.
the SOB will slide off, fall down, burn or otherwise incapacitate itself in a matter of months if not days.
it's one of those roads that doesn't want to be a road.
the chaz bono of asphalt.

SergioK 10-31-2011 10:49 AM

One of the big right hand sweepers (going up) used to be nice and smooth... single apex, now it's basically a double apex but in between there's an ever so slight pavement change (in height as well) that makes the turn an absolute *****.

jaytee 10-31-2011 02:14 PM

I'm out for this week although I could ride next week Thursday, weather permitting. It's getting pretty sketchy weather wise though. Did idylwild last Tuesday and spent nearly the entire day in low clouds and fog, wet and cold.

SergioK 10-31-2011 02:18 PM

Ralf, KJazz & I did the same about three years ago... it was in the 40's too... good times.

I'm still up in the air as for Wed. or Thurs... work is unpredictable at times.

signit98 10-31-2011 04:39 PM

Well, work is predictable for me... and I will have to work on Wed. I am out... sadly.

As for what we did 3 years ago, serg... we HAD SNOW up the hill, remember?

SergioK 10-31-2011 05:08 PM

Oh yeah!

What the hell, I thought you had some pretty strict rules about not working on week days, and not surfing on the weekend?

Jozef Schumann 10-31-2011 06:06 PM

embark from?

SergioK 10-31-2011 09:03 PM

Usually the Shell.

macfly 11-01-2011 07:42 AM

Yep, I'm still good to go if anyone else is, 10am leave from the Shell station at the 2/210.

Jozef Schumann 11-01-2011 08:32 AM

I'm in - Tomorrow or?

Still do, but I am helping a friend in need... different rules apply~!

macfly 11-02-2011 12:05 AM

Damn, I just booked for work tonight - next week - hopefully weather will hoid!!

SergioK 11-02-2011 07:49 AM

See how work always screws up fun?

I say we plan for 11-11-11... since something special just has to happen that day. :D

jaytee 11-02-2011 11:38 AM

I am available (weather permitting) next week on Tuesday the 8th or Thursday the 10th if anyone is available one of those days.

oalvarez 11-03-2011 05:39 PM

impressive how many HP2 owners there are here (i am new to the site).....cool.

Jozef Schumann 11-03-2011 09:04 PM

no HP2 here... yet. Only an r12s.

macfly 11-03-2011 09:13 PM

Tuesday 8th looks promising, Mike Frane may come too with his HP2Enduro. I'll be on the Megamoto, after taking it up for a breakfast run the other day I realize it is really the bike I love, the HP2S is more beautiful, glamorous, gorgeous, collectable, sleek, sexy, but the Megamoto is just so much more fun to ride for me.

jaytee 11-04-2011 12:37 AM

Weather is looking cold, rainy and windy through Wednesday the 9th with snow levels as low as 4000 ft. Yuk!

Warms up after Wednesday winds by nearly 10degs on Thursday the 10th.

Maybe some lower elevation runs are in order. ACH has some altitude. Perhaps an Ojai run? Or Anza-Borego? Or even Ortega.

Anyways, my vote is Thursday the 10th after the weather breaks warm. No need to be riding damp roads when the nights are getting below freezing.

JT

oalvarez 11-04-2011 02:15 AM

^ Macfly, were you up at Newcomb's last Sunday around 10:30 with other BMW moto riding buddies? I rode my HP2S but it was parked at the other end up by the tree.

Agreed, say no to black iced roads

Rapid Dog 11-04-2011 08:41 AM

Last Saturday about 3pm the Crest was fab. Did the loop from Acton up 9-mile and over 2 to Pine Canyon and home. Totally fab. New tarmac and paint, freshly cleaned and prepped for the Sunday crowd. Hardly a soul up there, felt like I had it all to myself.
Nice.

oalvarez 11-04-2011 09:37 AM

^ Agreed!!! i was hoping no one would notice that 9 mile was open again......so nice.

Rapid Dog 11-04-2011 10:31 AM

If I remember right Lower Tujunga is repaved as well.
Pine Canyon isn't but still the best set of turns on the loop.

jaytee 11-04-2011 12:25 PM

Just been advised that Thursday the 10th is out for me (child's dr appt). I am free Veterans day (Friday the 11th) which would give one more day for the weather to warm and the roads to dry out.

Anyone for a Friday the 11th ride? ACH, GMR, Ojai, Ortega? I'm open!

macfly 11-04-2011 12:27 PM

Agreed on icy road avoidance!!

I wasn't up there last Sun oalvarez, but I was on the Sat around that time.

I'll probably head up ACH on 11-11-11. If the weather is nice, I'd like to ride the entire mountain. SmileWavy

Rapid Dog 11-04-2011 01:07 PM

...11-11-11...you'll have a nice view of the end of the world.

SergioK 11-04-2011 01:10 PM

Ah, it's a long slippery slope down from here...

SergioK 11-11-2011 10:26 PM

Well I didn't have time to ride the entire mountain but wow was it nice up there! It got a little dirty just past Shortcut Saddle but it was very manageable. A nice bday present to myself. :D

oalvarez 11-12-2011 04:48 AM

We were up on the Crest and it may have been one of the nicest riding days of the year. Started up at 10:30am, rode the face, crossed over to the AGH via lbt, and then to Aliso Canyon into Acton. On the way back we rode Nine Mile over to the 2......not a single car, anywhere. Winter is being felt though.

Blissful,
