A popular topic: try searching "spline" for a plethora of threads. If you're handy then you can DIY with a Clymer's & the information here. Bummer about your bike, but it is remedial.

This topic needs a Sticky to summarize the R11/R12 issues and solutions.

IMHO, this forum could use a re-vamp if possible, to add various categories such as exhaust, tires, seats, etc. I have been on other motorcycle forums where this was done and find it fast and quite refreshing.

Just sayin'. SmileWavy

Are there grease points other than the rear of the driveshaft to fd splines on an r12?

It's not a difficult task; but, you do need to take your time during the tear-down process. The shaft replacement is another story, however. Tearing into the transmission constitutes major surgery, so, if you are casual wrench, call in some help.

PS: Replace all the seals. I've learned that lesson the hard way. :D

Has anyone done any investigation on using the R1200 input or drive shaft into a 2001 to 2004 R1150 GS transmission,
it appears that the splined portion has a longer set of splines this would then go into the disc to engage all of the splines,
and then possibly using some of the shaft components they could be swapped,
also using the R1200 clutch disc instead of the 1150 unit

This is the parts picture for the R1200

After looking it appears the shafts have the same diameters though the newer trans has bigger bearings the inner dimentions are the same
