HP2 Sport Touring

I have always wanted more sport for sport touring than what my 12S has to offer, so over the winter I decided to combine the "touring" aspect of the 12S with the "sport" aspect of the HP2.

I decided to start with the HP2 as a base as it seemed to be easier to make the mods to.

The first thing to be removed was the belly pan so I would have a little more ground clearance if I had to go on any gravel roads.

Next up was a nice large tank bag in the form of a SW Motech Engage XL tank bag. This bag fit the lines of the HP2 quite well.

Then on to mounting a BMW tail bag that I had. That just straps on to the HP2 tail piece.

What took the most time was combining the R12S saddlebag mounts to the HP2. This was done with the help of my neighbour, the welder/fabricator, and by using some nice tubular mounts that use the muffler hanger for support. It all bolted up quite nicely.

I would be interested in manufacturing the parts for the saddlebag mounts if anyone is interested.

Here is the result............

Cheers

You should buy a Multistrada or a trailer.

I think I would have preferred a trailer tow package. Also, shouldn't you put some Anakees on that bike instead?

I have never been a fan of trailers, that's why I went this route.
It took me a long time to source Dunlop 606's in a 17" and also wide enough for the 6" rear, they did not arrive soon enough for the photo's. Tires should be here next week.

Shreddr;
I did not do any welding to the subframe, I came up with a bracket that bolts to the front subframe mount and uses the muffler hanger mount at the rear.

Cheers

I suspect BMW puts lots of engineering into bag mounting. Hope yours is up to the task, but with the straps and strings holding them on, I'm willing to bet there's not much engineering over "Buckwheat". OTAY!

Yeah...right. If you go where those 606's will take you, better change riding position/bar risers/pegs.

PS...did you have a deadline for the photo's? I'd really like to see those 606's mounted.

This looks AWESOME! Like the best of both worlds. You might want a little higher bars, but other than that, you look good to go!

As much as we all know this post wasn't legit......it did spur my creativity to make the HP2 a legitimate sport touring machine
