Low Beam fine, High Beam too high
After I've adjusted my R1200S low beam properly, the high beam is way too high. Any ideas?
[Previously I had the problem where the vertical headlight adjuster jumped its tracks (the little sphere jumped out of its cup so that the adjuster doesn't do anything. I fixed that and the adjuster seems to work fine now.] Thanks |
Hi
I have the same problem - have You solved it ? |
They do have separate adjusters... just saying.
I forgot, because it has been so long, but you may be able to take the HL assembly out and adjust it within. |
One is for lateral and one horizontal.
Adjusting headlight • Motorcycle on level surface. • Rider’s weight on motorcycle (approx.80 kg/ 176 lbs). • Move swivel lever to horizontal position (basic setting). • Turn the adjusting screw to correct the headlight beam throw. Lateral adjustment: ....................... Adjusting screw on left of headlight. Vertical adjustment: .....................Adjusting screw on right of headlight. Turn screw anti-clockwise:............... longer throw Turn screw clockwise: ..................... shorter throw Setting: .... -12 cm (-4.7 in) over a distance of 10 m (32.8 ft) |
Bill... YOU ARE BACK!
Last time I saw you, you were in someone's computer somewhere in Australia... looked like you were trying to get out... Glad you made it. |

Joergen, Signit98,
Not solved yet. I'm going to try Signit's suggestion of trying to manipulate the hi beam internally/independently - maybe there's something not seated right entirely withing the high beam assembly. (Or maybe my repair of the adjuster was incomplete.) [Trouble is, on the R12S nothing can be reliably done (except by a dextrous Pixie) to the headlights (even change bulbs) without removing the whole assembly.] Bill Swartzwelder: on the R12S the vertical adjuster is between the two beams and the horizontal is to the right of both, looking from aft. Question: I assume you were describing the adjustment for the R1200GS; was your "left/right of headlight" looking from aft or from in front of the bike? Thanks, Schwenn |
Sorry I was thinking R1100S and pulled that from the r1100S service manual.
